Adapting to applications

Make your bindings fit your applications

By default a mouse event will translate to an action regardless of the application being used. For instance, doing a right swipe will launch the highlighter whether you are doing a PowerPoint presentation or listening to music with iTunes. You may want to have this right swipe zooming the display by default but launching the highlighter in PowerPoint, moving to the next track in iTunes and moving to the next URL in the Internet Explorer. MotionTools empowers you with this freedom with the Application Context feature.

When running in the background, MotionTools automatically detects the application that you are currently using (say Windows Media Player for instance). MotionTools knows that the Windows Media Player is a Media Player application. In other words, MotionTools knows that you are in a Media Player Application Context. Thanks to this, MotionTools is able to perform different actions depending on the application that you are currently using.

In the Configurator, you will program the per application context behavior using the Application context tabs. They are located at the top of the Configurator's interface. They are General, Internet, Media player and Presentation. Depending on the tab being selected, the bindings will apply to the corresponding application context. Bindings that are defined in a context are independent from bindings that are programmed for another application context:

This tab is used to define the default behavior of bindings. A binding defined in this tab can be overridden by redefining it for either Internet, Media player or Presentation contexts.

This tab is initially empty so that the definitions of the General tab apply also to Internet contexts. Use this tab for defining special bindings when using internet applications. Supported internet applications are Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, Google Chrome and Safari. Left click the bottom of the Internet tab sign for getting a list of supported applications.

This tab is initially empty so that the definitions of the General tab apply also to Media Player contexts. Use this tab for defining special bindings when using media player type applications. Supported media player applications are Windows Media Player, iTunes, WinAmp. Left click the bottom of the Media Player tab sign for getting a list of supported applications.

The supported Presentation application is Microsoft PowerPoint. Left click the bottom of the Presentation tab sign for getting a list of supported applications.
